Graphinex Prescribed Project Announcement

Graphinex has reached an important milestone with the Queensland Government formally declaring the Esmeralda Graphite Project as a Prescribed Project. This designation is reserved for projects considered strategically significant to the State and ensures that assessment and approval processes are properly coordinated and not delayed by administrative bottlenecks. It gives Graphinex a clear and efficient pathway through the remaining regulatory steps and provides stronger certainty around development timelines.

This recognition follows Graphinex securing a US $860 million (approximately AUD 1.3 billion) Letter of Interest from the U.S. Export–Import Bank. It is the largest single financing indication issued under the US–Australia Critical Minerals Framework and represents a major vote of confidence in both the Esmeralda Project and Queensland’s emerging role in global critical-minerals supply chains. The combination of streamlined approvals and substantial international financing support puts the project on a very strong footing.

The Esmeralda Project contains Queensland’s largest known graphite deposit and is designed as a fully integrated mine-to-market operation. Ore will be mined and processed in north-west Queensland, with downstream refining and the production of battery-grade anode material in Townsville. This integrated approach aligns with Australia’s critical-minerals strategy by capturing more value onshore, reducing reliance on offshore processing, and positioning Queensland as a leader in high-purity graphite production for the battery and renewable-energy industries.

Beyond the strategic importance, the project is expected to deliver meaningful benefits to regional Queensland through construction jobs, long-term operational roles, and the growth of supporting industries. It also reinforces the State’s ambition to become a key player in the global battery supply chain, backed by high-quality resources, stable governance and strong alignment with allied nations seeking secure supplies of graphite.
